Description:
Alpha synuclein is a presynaptic proteins abundant in neurons. Alpha-synuclein, a component of Alzheimer's disease amyloid plaques, is localized to neuronal cell bodies and synapses. Defects in alpha-synuclein are associated with Parkinson disease type 1 and 4, Lewy body dementia, Alzheimer's disease and Hallervorden-Spatz syndrome. Recent evidence suggests that phosphorylation of alpha-synuclein at Ser129 plays a role in the formation of inclusions in Parkinson's Disease.
