Beta-2 microglobulin polyclonal, anti-human

Background:
The defined antibody reactivity is restricted to beta-2 microglobulin as tested at the level of sensitivity of immuno-precipitation techniques. A single precipitin line is obtained with foetal serum, colostrum and selected pathological plasma and urine containing high levels of beta-2 microglobulin in bidimensional electrophoresis, immunoelectrophoresis and double radial immunodiffusion (Ouchterlony) which shows a reaction of full identity with the purified immunogen. In precipitating techniques as immunoelectrophoresis, single and double radial immunodiffusion (Mancini, Ouchterlony) to identify the presence of beta-2 microglobulin and to determine its concentration. The presence of non-precipitating antibodies has not been assayed. It does not exclude the use of the antiserum in non-precipitating techniques if proper controls are included.

Source: Beta-2 microglobulin is a member of the Immunoglobulin superfamily. The amino acid sequence resembles that of immunoglobulin constant domains. It is isolated from urine of patients with impaired readsorption in the kidney tubules. High levels of beta-2 microglobulin are as present in cord blood serum and foetal serum. The host animal is immunised with highly purified beta-2 microglobulin. Freund's complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.

Cross Reactivity:
The antiserum does not cross-react with any other Human plasma proteins as tested in gel-diffusion techniques. Inter-species cross-reactivity is a normal feature of antibodies to plasma proteins, since homologous proteins of different species frequently share antigenic determinants. Cross-reactivity of this antiserum has not been tested in detail
