Protein Family: Cell Adhesion Molecules
Pathway and Disease: Signal Transduction, Signaling Molecules and Interaction, Immune System, Infectious Diseases
Alternate Names: Beta-defensin 1; BD-1; hBD-1; Defensin, beta 1; DEFB1; BD1; HBD1
Accession No.: O89117
Description:
Beta-defensin 1 is a peptide with bactericidal activity. The exact mechanism of the antimicrobial activity of defensins is not known, but two models have been postulated, one involving pore formation and the other involving nonspecific electrostatic interaction with the bacterial membrane.
Format:
Each vial contains 0.1 ml peptide in deionized water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml. Use at 5.6 ug/ml for a 100X excess over antibody for maximum blocking effect.
MW: 1354.7 g/mol
Sequence:
The synthetic peptide used to raise the antibody Cat. No. 251532 is selected from a sequence within the C-term region of rat beta-defensin 1. For blocking experiments, a 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended.
Composition:
C57H98N18O18S1
Purity:
> 80% by HPLC
Solubility:
Distilled water for a solution up to 2 mg/ml, otherwise we recommend using acetonitrile.
Storage:
Store at -20°C. The product is hygroscopic and must be protected from light. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C.
