Protein Family: Cytokines, CAM ligands

Pathway and Disease: Signal Transduction, Cancers, Cell Motility, Cell Growth and Death

Alternate Names: Heparin-binding growth factor 2; HBGF-2; Basic fibroblast growth factor; BFGF; Prostatropin; FGF2; FGFB

Accession No.: P09038

Description:
Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF or FGF2), also called heparin-binding growth factor 2 is an angiogenic agent in vivo and potent mitogen for a variety of cell types in vitro. bFGF activates the MAP kinase signaling pathway and plays a role in synaptic transmission. In additon bFGF induces cell proliferation and binds heparin more strongly than aFGF.

Format:
Each vial contains 0.1 ml peptide in deionized water for a final concentration of 1 mg/ml. Use at 5.6 ug/ml for a 100X excess over antibody for maximum blocking effect.

MW: 1424.7 g/mol

Sequence:
The synthetic peptide used to raise the antibody Cat. No. 250559 is selected from a sequence within the center region of human bFGF. For blocking experiments, a 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended.

Composition:
C53H83N17O19

Purity:
> 80% by HPLC

Solubility:
Distilled water for a solution up to 2 mg/ml, otherwise we recommend using acetonitrile.

Storage:
Store at -20°C. The product is hygroscopic and must be protected from light. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C.
