Background:
The bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a family of secreted signaling molecules that can induce ectopic bone growth. Many BMPs are part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. BMPs were originally identified by an ability of demineralized bone extract to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo in an extraskeletal site. Bmp8 induces cartilage and bone formation, and may be the osteoinductive factor responsible for the phenomenon of epithelial osteogenesis. Bmp8 plays a role in calcium regulation and bone homeostasis

Other Names:
Bone morphogenetic protein 8B, BMP-8, BMP-8B, Osteogenic protein 2, OP-2, BMP8B, BMP8

Target/Specificity:
The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP1719a was selected from the N-term region of human Bmp8 . A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.

Gene Name: BMP8B

Gene ID: 656
Primary Accession: P34820
Other Accession: NP_001711
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
