Description:
Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a 37-aa neuropeptide produced by tissue specific processing of the calcitonin gene, e.g. CGRP is the major product in neural tissues. CGRP is released by motor neurons where it exerts a long-lasting vasodilator effect on skeletal muscle fibers. CGRP binds to CGRP receptors on pancreatic beta cells, which induces plasma levels of pancreatic enzymes.
