Background:
This gene encodes two isoforms of a receptor for monocytechemoattractant protein-1, a chemokine which specifically mediatesmonocyte chemotaxis. Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 is involvedin monocyte infiltration in inflammatory diseases such asrheumatoid arthritis as well as in the inflammatory responseagainst tumors. The receptors encoded by this gene mediateagonist-dependent calcium mobilization and inhibition of adenylylcyclase. This gene is located in the chemokine receptor genecluster region. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants areexpressed by the gene.
