Description:
Neprilysin (CD10) has thermolysin-like specificity and is confined on acting on polypeptides of up to 30 amino acids. CD10 is biologically important in the destruction of opioid peptides such as Met- and Leu-enkephalins by cleavage of a Gly-Phe bond, and is able to cleave angiotensin-1, angiotensin-2 and angiotensin 1-9. CD10 is also involved in the degradation of atrial natriuretic factor (ANF). CD10 displays UV-inducible elastase activity toward skin preelastic and elastic fibers. CD10 is a cell surface marker used in the diagnostic of human acute lymphocytic leukemia.
