Introduction:
CD22 is a protein present on B cells that regulates their activation. It acts as a natural brake on the B-cell receptor (BCR), helping to prevent excessive immune responses. It is expressed at different stages of B-cell development, but not on plasma cells. It is also involved in other signalling pathways and is internalised by endocytosis, which influences its function. Because of its role in immune regulation, CD22 is an important biomarker and a potential therapeutic target in B-cell diseases.
Recomended usage
Immunostep’s CD22, clone S-HLC-1, is a monoclonal antibody intended for the identification and enumeration of the CD22 antigen, a 130 kD type I transmembrane glycoprotein also known as Siglec-2 and BL-CAM. This member of the immunoglobulin superfamily (sialoadhesion subgroup) is expressed in the cytoplasm of pro-B and pre-B cells, and on the surface of mature B and activated B cells, but not on plasma cells. This reagent is effective for direct immunofluorescence staining of human tissue for flow cytometric analysis using 1 test for 106 cells.
