Backgroud: This gene encodes a member of the SIGLEC (sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin) family of proteins. The encoded transmembrane receptor binds sialyl-TN glycans and leptin. Placental expression of the encoded protein is upregulated in preeclampsia.
