Background:
CD54, also known as intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM-1), is mainly involved in the recognition and adhesion between lymphocytes and endothelial cells. It can also be expressed in activated endothelial cells, peripheral lymphocytes (especially activated T and B cells) and monocytes, some epithelial cells and melanoma cells.
