Background:
Cyclin dependent kinase 5 (CdK5) is a member of the cyclin-dependent kinase family of serine/threonine kinases. CDK5 is most abundant in neuronal and muscle cells contain the highest amount of this protein. Cdk5 is not activated by cyclins, but by the p35 protein, which is expressed solely in the brain. Cdk5 interacts with D1 and D3 type G1 cyclins and can phosphorylate histone H1, TAU, MAP2 and NF-H and NF-M. Cdk5 activity is involved in terminal differentiation of neurons and muscle cells.

Other Names:
Cyclin-dependent-like kinase 5, Cell division protein kinase 5, Serine/threonine-protein kinase PSSALRE, Tau protein kinase II catalytic subunit, TPKII catalytic subunit, CDK5, CDKN5

Target/Specificity:
The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP7521b was selected from the C-term region of human CDK5 . A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.

Gene Name: CDK5 (HGNC:1774)

Gene ID: 1020
Primary Accession: Q00535
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
