It was identified as acyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, and has been shown to interactwith, and dephosphorylate CDK2 kinase, thus prevent the activationof CDK2 kinase. This gene was reported to be deleted, mutated, oroverexpressed in several kinds of cancers. Alternatively splicedtranscript variants encoding different isoforms have been found forthis gene.
