Background:
The protein encoded by this gene is an integral componentof Cajal bodies (also called coiled bodies). Cajal bodies arenuclear suborganelles of varying number and composition that areinvolved in the post-transcriptional modification of small nuclearand small nucleolar RNAs. The N-terminus of the coilin proteindirects its self-oligomerization while the C-terminus influencesthe number of nuclear bodies assembled per cell. Differentialmethylation and phosphorylation of coilin likely influences itslocalization among nuclear bodies and the composition and assemblyof Cajal bodies. This gene has pseudogenes on chromosome 4 andchromosome 14.
Other Names:
Coilin, p80-coilin, COIL, CLN80
Gene Name: COIL
Gene ID: 8161
Primary Accession: P38432
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
