Background:
Corticotropin-releasing hormone is secreted by theparaventricular nucleus (PVN) of the hypothalamus in response tostress. Marked reduction in this protein has been observed inassociation with Alzheimer disease and autosomal recessivehypothalamic corticotropin deficiency has multiple and potentiallyfatal metabolic consequences including hypoglycemia and hepatitis. In addition to production in the hypothalamus, this protein is alsosynthesized in peripheral tissues, such as T lymphocytes and ishighly expressed in the placenta. In the placenta it is a markerthat determines the length of gestation and the timing ofparturition and delivery. A rapid increase in circulating levels ofthe hormone occurs at the onset of parturition, suggesting that, inaddition to its metabolic functions, this protein may act as atrigger for parturition.
Other Names:
Corticoliberin, Corticotropin-releasing factor, CRF, Corticotropin-releasing hormone, CRH
Gene Name: CRH
Gene ID: 1392
Primary Accession: P06850
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
