Background:
Fertilization consists of a sequence of specific cell-cellinteractions culminating in the fusion of the sperm and egg plasmamembranes. Recognition, binding, and fusion occur through theinteraction of complementary molecules that are localized tospecific domains of the sperm and egg plasma membranes. In thesperm, the postacrosomal region or equatorial segment is involvedin sperm-egg plasma membrane fusion. The protein encoded by thisgene is a member of the cysteine-rich secretory protein (CRISP)family. This protein is expressed in the epididymis, is secretedinto the epididymal lumen, and binds to the postacrosomal region ofthe sperm head where it plays a role at fertilization in sperm-eggfusion through complementary sites localized on the egg surface. Two isoforms are encoded by transcript variants of this gene.
Other Names:
Cysteine-rich secretory protein 1, CRISP-1, AEG-like protein, ARP, Acidic epididymal glycoprotein homolog, CRISP1, AEGL1
Gene Name: CRISP1
Gene ID: 167
Primary Accession: P54107
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
