Description:
Keratin, type II cytoskeletal 2 epidermal II (cytokeratin-2) contributes to terminal cornification. Cytokeratin-2 is associated with keratinocyte activation, proliferation and keratinization. Defects in cytokeratin-2 are a cause of ichthyosis bullosa of siemens (IBS). IBS is a rare autosomal dominant disorder displaying a type of epidermolytic hyperkeratosis characterized by extensive blistering from birth.
