Background:
This gene encodes a member of the hedgehog family. Thehedgehog gene family encodes signaling molecules that play animportant role in regulating morphogenesis. This protein ispredicted to be made as a precursor that is autocatalyticallycleaved; the N-terminal portion is soluble and contains thesignalling activity while the C-terminal portion is involved inprecursor processing. More importantly, the C-terminal productcovalently attaches a cholesterol moiety to the N-terminal product, restricting the N-terminal product to the cell surface andpreventing it from freely diffusing throughout the organism.Defects in this protein have been associated with partial gonadaldysgenesis (PGD) accompanied by minifascicular polyneuropathy. Thisprotein may be involved in both male gonadal differentiation andperineurial development.
Other Names:
Desert hedgehog protein, DHH, HHG-3, Desert hedgehog protein N-product, Desert hedgehog protein C-product, DHH
Gene Name: DHH (HGNC:2865)
Gene ID: 50846
Primary Accession: O43323
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
