The encoded protein plays arole in membrane trafficking and protein folding, and has beenshown to have anti-neurodegenerative properties. The encodedprotein is known to play a role in cystic fibrosis and Huntington'sdisease. A pseudogene of this gene is located on the short arm ofchromosome 8.
