TPases are a group of enzymes that catalyze hydrolysis of the gamma phosphate bond in guanine triphosphate (GTP) to form guanine diphosphate (GDP). Mg2+ ions are essential for catalytic activity. GTPases, often coupled to G proteins, are essential in signal transduction.
