Backgroud: This gene belongs to the forkhead family of transcription factors which is characterized by a distinct forkhead domain. Mutations in this gene cause autoimmune susceptibility 1. Most cases occur in a sporadic family pattern suggesting polygenic, multifactorial inheritance.
