Description:
Forkhead box protein L2 (FOXL2) is a fork-head transcription factor that is expressed in developing gonad and in granulosa cells of the mature ovary. It plays a role in repressing the development of testis, and facilitating thedifferentiation and maintenance of the ovary. Mutations in the FOXL2 gene result in blepharophimosis ptosis epicanthus inversus (BPES) syndrome, which is characterized by craniofacial defects and premature ovarian failure. FOXL2 has also been implicated in the development of ovarian granulosa cell tumors.
