Background:
The protein encoded by this gene is a trifunctional polypeptide. It has phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase, phosphoribosylglycinamide synthetase, phosphoribosylaminoimidazole synthetase activity which is required for de novo purine biosynthesis. This enzyme is highly conserved in vertebrates. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
Research Area: Cancer, Epigenetics and Nuclear Signaling, Metabolism, Signal transduction
Synonyms:
5'-phosphoribosylglycinamide transformylase, AIR synthase, AIRS, GAR transformylase, GARS, GART, GARTF, Glycinamide ribonucleotide synthetase, MGC47764, PAIS, PGFT, Phosphoribosyl-aminoimidazole synthetase, Phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase, Phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase phosphoribosylglycinamide synthetase phosphoribosylaminoimidazole synthetase, Phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase, EC 2.1.2.29, Phosphoribosylglycinamide formyltransferase, phosphoribosylglycinamide synthetase, phosphoribosylaminoimidazole synthetase, Phosphoribosylglycinamide synthetase, PRGS, PUR2, Trifunctional purine biosynthetic protein adenosine 3
