Background:
The product of this gene is part of a large complexlocalized to the cytoplasm, nucleoli, and to discrete nuclearbodies called Gemini bodies (gems). The complex functions inspliceosomal snRNP assembly in the cytoplasm, and regeneratesspliceosomes required for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus. Theencoded protein directly interacts with a DEAD box protein andseveral spliceosome core proteins. Alternatively spliced transcriptvariants have been described, but their biological validity has notbeen determined.
