Background:
Connexins, such as GJA9, are involved in the formation of gap junctions, intercellular conduits that directly connect the cytoplasms of contacting cells. Each gap junction channel is formed by docking of 2 hemichannels, each of which contains 6 connexin subunits. One gap junction consists of a cluster of closely packed pairs of transmembrane channels, the connexons, through which materials of low MW diffuse from one cell to a neighboring cell.
Research Area: Signal Transduction
Synonyms:
Connexin 58, Connexin 59, Connexin-58, Connexin-59, Cx58, Cx59, CXA9, Gap junction alpha 10 protein, Gap junction alpha 9 protein, Gap junction alpha-10 protein, Gap junction alpha-9 protein, GJA9, MGC50985
Immunogen: Synthetic peptide of human GJA9
Swissprot: P57773
Gene Accession: NP_110399
