Protein Family: Receptors and Channels
Pathway and Disease: Signaling molecules and interaction
Alternate Names: Glucagon-like peptide 1 (7-37); GLP-1 (7-37); Glucagon; GCG
Accession No.: P01275
Description:
Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is a potent stimulator of glucose-dependent insulin release and plays important roles on gastric motility and the suppression of plasma glucagon levels. Glucagon, secreted in the A cells of the islets of Langherans, plays a key role in glucose metabolism and homeostasis. Proglucagon is processed in glucagon, GLP-1, GLP-2, glicentin and oxyntomodulin depending on tissue. Glucagon is used to treat severe hypoglycemia in insulin-dependent diabetics under the names Glucagon (Eli Lilly) and GlucaGen or Glucagon Novo Nordisk (Novo Nordisk).
Format:
Each vial contains 1 mg of lyophilized solid packaged under an inert gas and supplied as a trifluoroacetate salt.
MW: 3337.73 g/mol
Sequence:
H-His-Ala-Glu-Gly-Thr-Phe-Thr-Ser-Asp-Val-Ser-Ser-Tyr-Leu-Glu-Gly-Gln-Ala-Ala-Lys-Glu-Phe-Ile-Ala-Trp-Leu-Val-Lys-Gly-Arg-Gly-OH or H-HAEGTFTSDVSSYLEGQAAKEFIAWLVKGRG-OH
