The protein encoded by this gene is a homeodomain proteinthat lacks certain conserved residues required for DNA binding. Itwas reported that choriocarcinoma cell lines and tissues failed toexpress this gene, which suggested the possible involvement of thisgene in malignant conversion of placental trophoblasts. Studies inmice suggest that this protein may interact with serum responsefactor (SRF) and modulate SRF-dependent cardiac-specific geneexpression and cardiac development.
