Background:
Heparan sulfate biosynthetic enzymes are key components ingenerating a myriad of distinct heparan sulfate fine structuresthat carry out multiple biologic activities. The enzyme encoded bythis gene is a member of the heparan sulfate biosynthetic enzymefamily. It possesses both heparan sulfate glucosaminyl3-O-sulfotransferase activity, anticoagulant heparan sulfateconversion activity, and is a rate limiting enzyme for synthesis ofanticoagulant heparan. This enzyme is an intraluminal Golgiresident protein.
