Background:
Keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into epithelial keratins and hair keratins. This gene encodes a protein that is expressed in the inner root sheath of hair follicles. The type II keratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q13.
Synonyms:
KRT71, K6IRS1, KRT6IRS, KRT6IRS1
Isotype: Guinea pig Polyclonal (GPK6irs1)
Immunogen:
Synthetic peptide of human keratin K71 (formerly also designated keratin K6irs1; C-GGE GRS RGS AND YKD T), coupled to KLH
Form: Stabilized Serum
Specificity:
Specific for human keratin K71 (57.3 kD polypeptide; calculated from sequence data). The antiserum stains specifically the Henle, Huxley and cuticle layer of the inner root sheath (irs) of the hair follicle. Although there is a considerable sequence homology of keratin K71 to keratins K5 andK 6, no cross-reactivity was observed with Western blotting and immunofluorescence microscopy.
Reactivity: human, mouse
Applications: Immunohistochemistry on frozen sections, Immunoblotting
Working DIlution: 1:100 to 1:200 for immunohistochemistry; 1:2,000 for immunoblotting (ECL method)
Storage: 2-8C
