Protein Family: Cytokines

Pathway and Disease: Immune System, Signal Transduction, Signaling Molecules and Interaction

Alternate Names: Leukocyte Inhibitory Factor, LIFDescription:
Human Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF) is member of the IL-6 family and is made by a variety of tissues. Human LIF signals through gp130 to activate STAT3 in human ESCs . In mouse ESCs, LIF promotes self-renewal and pluripotentcy, but in human cells there is no indication that LIF has the same function. Instead, FGF-basic (FGF-2) and Activin A are used to promote self-renewal and pluripotent potential. Human LIF is produced in E. coli. Recombinant human LIF is a non-glycosylated protein, containing 181 amino acids, with a molecular weight of 19.9 kDa.

Source: E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.05ng/ug or <0.5EU/ug.

Applications: E, WB

Application Notes:
The activity is determined by its ability to induce proliferation of TF-1 cells and is typically less than 0.07 ng/mL. Specific activity: 1 x 10e7 units/mg

Accession No.: P15018

MW: 19900 Da

Purity:
Purity > 95% as determined by RP-HPLC and reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE. Protein Content determined by UV spectroscopy at 280 nm and analysis by RP-HPLC calibrated against a known standard. Quantitation on SDS-PAGE against a known standard.

Format:
Each vial contains 25 ug of lyophilized protein. Reconstitute with 0.25 ml sterile deionized water for a final concentration of 0.1 mg/ml.

Storage: Store at -20°C. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C. We recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) for long term storage.
