Background:
The product of this gene is a serine/threonine proteinkinase related to kinases involved in cell cycle regulation. It isexpressed almost exclusively in the testis, primarily in germcells. Studies of the mouse and rat homologs have localized thekinase to the chromosomes during meiosis in spermatogenesis, specifically to the synaptonemal complex that exists whilehomologous chromosomes are paired. There is, however, a study ofthe mouse homolog that has identified high levels of expression indeveloping sensory epithelia so its function may be moregeneralized.

Other Names:
Serine/threonine-protein kinase MAK, Male germ cell-associated kinase, MAK

The synthetic peptide sequence is selected from aa 610-623 of HUMAN MAK
