Description:
Myelin basic protein (MBP) is a major constituent of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells in the nervous system. Numerous MBP isoforms are involved in myelin membrane formation and stabilization by interacting with the lipids in the myelin membrane. The major form of MBP is a protein of about 18.5 kDa (170 aa). MBP [1-11] Peptide is the major encephalitogenic epitope in MBP. This peptide has been tested in vivo for induction of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).
