Protein Family: Chaperones and Folding Catalysts
Pathway and Disease: Immune System, Nervous and Sensory Systems, Neurodegenative Disorders
Alternate Names: Myelin basic protein; MBP; Myelin A1 protein; Myelin membrane encephalitogenic protein; MBP
Accession No.: P02686
Description:
Myelin basic protein (MBP) is a major constituent of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells in the nervous system. Numerous MBP isoforms are involved in myelin membrane formation and stabilization by interacting with the lipids in the myelin membrane. The major form of MBP is a protein of about 18.5 kDa (170 aa). MBP [87-99] Peptide is a major encephalitogenic epitope in MBP that induces T-cell proliferation with Th1 polarization in the CNS. This peptide is a major antigenic component implicated in the pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis.
Format:
Each vial contains 1 mg of lyophilized solid packaged under an inert gas and supplied as a trifluoroacetate salt.
MW: 1555.86 g/mol
Sequence:
Human: H-Val-His-Phe-Phe-Lys-Asn-Ile-Val-Thr-Pro-Arg-Thr-Pro-OH or H-VHFFKNIVTPRTP-OH
Composition:
C74H114N20O17
Purity:
> 95% by HPLC
Solubility:
Distilled water for a solution up to 2 mg/ml, otherwise we recommend using acetonitrile.
