Protein Family: Receptors and Channels
Pathway and Disease: Cell Growth and Death, Nervous and Sensory Systems, Signaling Molecules and Interaction
Alternate Names: Proenkephalin A; PENK; Met-enkephalin; Opioid growth factor; OGF
Accession No.: P01210
Description:
Met-Enkephalin, also called opioid growth factor (OGF), is a naturally occurring endogenous opioid peptide that has opioid effects of a relatively short duration. It is one of the two forms of enkephalin with Leu-enkephalin. Enkephalins are considered the primary endogenous ligands of the delta-opioid receptor, due to their high potency and selectivity for the site over other endogenous opioids. The Met-Enkephalin Peptide competes with and mimics the effects of opiate drugs. The Met-Enkephalin Amide Peptide also serves as a growth factor on certain cells.
Format:
Each vial contains 20 mg of lyophilized solid packaged under an inert gas and supplied as a trifluoroacetate salt.
MW: 572.69 g/mol
Sequence:
H-Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met-NH2 or H-YGGFM-NH2
Composition:
C27H36N6O6S1
Purity:
> 95% by HPLC
Solubility:
Distilled water for a solution up to 2 mg/ml, otherwise we recommend using acetonitrile.
Storage:
Store at -20°C. The product is hygroscopic and must be protected from light. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, aliquot and store at -20°C.
