Background:
There are believed to be over 100 differentglycosyltransferases involved in the synthesis of protein-bound andlipid-bound oligosaccharides. The enzyme encoded by this genetransfers a GlcNAc residue to the beta-linked mannose of thetrimannosyl core of N-linked oligosaccharides and produces abisecting GlcNAc.
