Protein Family: Receptors and Channels
Pathway and Disease: Nervous and Sensory Systems, Neurodegenerative Disorders, Cell Communication, Signaling Molecules and Interaction, Signal Transduction
Description:
The metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) are key receptors in the modulation of excitatory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. They are implicated in many forms of neural plasticity as well as learning and memory and drug abuse. Group I metabotropic glutamate receptors (consisting of mGluR1 and mGluR5) are G-protein-coupled neurotransmitter receptors that are localized in the perisynaptic region of the postsynaptic membrane. When activated, Group I mGluRs lead to stimulation of phospholipase and activation of Protein Kinase C. In contrast, activation of Group II metabotropic receptors (mGluR2 and mGluR3) leads to inhibition of adenylate cyclase. The mGluR2 subunit has been shown to be required for long-term potentiation at the mossy fiber input in the hippocampus.
Alternate Names: Metabotropic glutamate receptor 2, mGluR2, Grm2, Gprc1b, Mglur2
Application Notes: E: 1:500-1:1,000; WB: 1:1,000; IHC: 1:500
Accession No.: P31421
Antigen: KLH-conjugated synthetic peptide encompassing a sequence within the C-term region of rat mGluR2/3.
Format: Each vial contains 0.1 mg IgG in 0.1 ml (1 mg/ml) of HEPES (pH7.5), 0.01% BSA, with 50% glycerol. Antibody was purified by immunogen affinity chromatography.
