Background:
Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family areinvolved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normalphysiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in diseaseprocesses, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's aresecreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleavedby extracellular proteinases. The protein encoded by this genecleaves type II collagen more efficiently than types I and III. Itmay be involved in articular cartilage turnover and cartilagepathophysiology associated with osteoarthritis. The gene is part ofa cluster of MMP genes which localize to chromosome 11q22.3.
Other Names:
Collagenase 3, 3424-, Matrix metalloproteinase-13, MMP-13, MMP13
Target/Specificity:
The synthetic peptide sequence used to generate the antibody AP13706c was selected from the Center region of MMP13. A 10 to 100 fold molar excess to antibody is recommended. Precise conditions should be optimized for a particular assay.
Gene Name: MMP13
Gene ID: 4322
Primary Accession: P45452
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
