Protein Family: Cytokines
Pathway and Disease: Cell Growth and Death, Nervous and Sensory Systems, Signal Transduction
Alternate Names: Intelectin-1, ITLN-1, Intestinal lactoferrin receptor, galactofuranose-binding lectin, endothelial lectin HL-1, Omentin, ITLN1, INTL, ITLN, LFR, UNQ640/PRO1270Description:
Human Omentin is an adipocyte-derived protein that counteracts obesity and related insulin resistance, therefore is considered to be a link between obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Omentin enhances insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in adipocytes, but has no effect on basal glucose uptake. This cytokine increases AKT phosphorylation in the absence and presence of insulin. Omentin also plays a role in the defense system against microorganisms, as it specifically recognizes carbohydrate chains of pathogens and bacterial components containing galactofuranosyl residues in a calcium-dependent manner. Human Omentin is produced in E.coli. Recombinant human omentin is a non-glycosylated, non-covalently linked homodimer, containing two 313 amino acid chains, with a total molecular weight of 35 kDa.
Source: E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.01ng/ug or <0.1EU/ug.
Applications: E, WB
Application Notes:
ELISA and WB. There is no biological assay data available at this time.
