Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) is a 19-kDa prohormone processed into PACAP-related peptide (PRP-48), PACAP-27 and PACAP-38. PACAP stimulates adenylate cyclase in pituitary cells, playing pivotal roles as neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. PACAP belongs to the glucagon family.
