Parvalbumin alpha (parvalbumin) is a calcium binding protein involved in relaxation after contraction. Parvalbumin binds two calcium ions. Parvalbumin is localized in fast-contracting muscles, where its levels are highest, and in the brain and some endocrine tissues.
