Background:
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of theplatelet-derived growth factor family. The four members of thisfamily are mitogenic factors for cells of mesenchymal origin andare characterized by a core motif of eight cysteines. This geneproduct appears to form only homodimers. It differs from theplatelet-derived growth factor alpha and beta polypeptides inhaving an unusual N-terminal domain, the CUB domain. Alternativelyspliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.
