Protein Family: Hormones
Pathway and Disease: Endocrine System
Alternate Names: pentagastrin; L-Phenylalaninamide, N-((1,1-dimethylethoxy)carbonyl)-beta-alanyl-L-tryptophyl-L-methionyl-L-alpha-aspartyl; N-(isobutoxycarbonyl)-β-alanyl-L-tryptophyl-L-methionyl-L-α-aspartyl-L-phenylalaninamide
Accession No.: CAS 5534-95-2
Description:
Pentagastrin stimulates the secretion of gastric acid, pepsin and intrinsic factor in the gut. Pentagastrin binds to the cholecystokinin-B receptor, which is expressed widely in the brain. Pentagastrin is a pentapeptide having the same effects as the parent hormone gastrin I. Pentagastrin is indicated as a diagnostic aid for evaluation of gastric acid secretory function. It is effective in testing for anacidity (achlorhydria) in patients with suspected pernicious anemia, atrophic gastritis, or gastric carcinoma. It is also effective in determining the reduction in acid output after operations for peptic ulcer, such as vagotomy or gastric resection.
Format:
Each vial contains 1 mg of lyophilized solid packaged under an inert gas and supplied as a trifluoroacetate salt.
MW: 768.79 g/mol
Sequence:
Boc-beta-Ala-Trp-Met-Asp-Phe-NH2 or Boc-beta-AWMDF-NH2
Composition:
C37H50N7O9S1
Purity:
> 95% by HPLC
Solubility:
Distilled water for a solution up to 2 mg/ml, otherwise we recommend using acetonitrile.
Storage:
Store at -20°C. The product is hygroscopic and must be protected from light. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, aliquot and store at -20°C.
