Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma (PPAR-gamma) is a nuclear receptor that functions as a transcription factor and plays an important role in controling differentiation and fatty acid metabolism. Activation of PPAR-gamma is vital in modulating the expression of metabolic control proteins and consequently controling fatty acid metabolism in cardiac muscle. This marker is useful as a drug target for therapeutic intervention in cardiac disease. PPAR-gamma is also involved in the pathogenesis of important metabolic disorders such as obesity and non-insulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM). Recombinant human PPAR-gamma is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag.
