Protein Family: Cytokines,Glycan Binding Proteins
Pathway and Disease: Cell Growth and Death, Nervous and Sensory Systems, Signal Transduction, Signaling Molecules and Interaction
Alternate Names: PTN, Pleiotrophin, Heparin-binding brain mitogen, Heparin-binding growth factor 8, Heparin-binding growth-associated molecule, Heparin-binding neurite outgrowth-promoting factor 1, Osteoblast-specific factor 1, HBBM, HBGF-8, HB-GAM, HBNF-1, OSF-1, NEGF1Description:
Pleiotrophin, or PTN, is a growth factor that has mitogenic effects on fibroblast, epithelial, and endothelial cells as well as induces neurite outgrowth. PTN is made by many tissues, but predominantly by the tissues of the nervous system during development. PTN shows a high affinity for heparin. Human PTN is produced in E. coli. Recombinant human PTN is a non-glycosylated protein, containing 137 amino acids, with a molecular weight of 15.4 kDa.
Source: E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.05ng/ug or <0.5EU/ug.
Applications: E, WB
Application Notes:
The activity can be determined by its ability to induce neurite outgrowth of embryonic rat neurons at concentrations between 3-8 ug/mL. Activity for this product is yet to be determined.
Accession No.: P21246
MW: 15400 Da
Sequence:

Purity:
Purity > 95% as determined by RP-HPLC and reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE. Protein Content determined by UV spectroscopy at 280 nm and analysis by RP-HPLC calibrated against a known standard. Quantitation on SDS-PAGE against a known standard.
Format:
Each vial contains 20 ug of lyophilized protein. Reconstitute with 0.2 ml sterile deionized water for a final concentration of 0.1 mg/ml.
Storage: Store at -20°C. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C. We recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) for long term storage.
