Description
CD36, also known as platelet glycoprotein 4 isoform 1, is an integral membrane glycoprotein. This protein is found on the surface of cells that is thought to have a 'hairpin-like' structure with alpha-helices at the C- and N- termini projecting through the membrane and a larger extracellular loop. It is broadly expressed on a variety of cell types including adipocytes, skeletal muscle, and epithelial cells of the retina, breast, intestine, and megakaryocytes. Also, it is required for the anti-angiogenic effects of thrombospondin-1 in the corneal neovascularization assay. It plays a role in lipid metabolism and plays a significant role in the initiation and pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases such as Alzheimer s disease and atherosclerosis. Recombinant human CD36, fused to hIgG-His-tag at C-terminus, was expressed in insect cell and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.Alternative Names
