Background:
The Rh blood group system is the second most clinicallysignificant of the blood groups, second only to ABO. It is also themost polymorphic of the blood groups, with variations due todeletions, gene conversions, and missense mutations. The Rh bloodgroup includes this gene, which encodes the RhD protein, and asecond gene that encodes both the RhC and RhE antigens on a singlepolypeptide. The two genes, and a third unrelated gene, are foundin a cluster on chromosome 1. The classification of Rh-positive andRh-negative individuals is determined by the presence or absence ofthe highly immunogenic RhD protein on the surface of erythrocytes.Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have beenfound for this gene.
Other Names:
Blood group Rh(D) polypeptide, RHXIII, Rh polypeptide 2, RhPII, Rhesus D antigen, CD240D, RHD
Gene Name: RHD
Gene ID: 6007
Primary Accession: Q02161
Format: Peptides are lyophilized in a solid powder format. Peptides can be reconstituted in solution using the appropriate buffer as needed.
