Background:
The protein encoded by this gene is a beta-amyloidpeptide-binding protein. It contains a structural module related tothat of the seven transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptorsuperfamily and known to be important in heterotrimeric G proteinactivation. Beta-amyloid peptide has been established to be acausative factor in neuron death and the consequent diminution ofcognitive abilities observed in Alzheimer's disease. This proteinmay be a target of neurotoxic beta-amyloid peptide, and may mediatecellular vulnerability to beta-amyloid peptide toxicity through a Gprotein-regulated program of cell death.
