Protein Family: Cytokines
Pathway and Disease: Cell Growth and Death, Nervous and Sensory Systems, Signal Transduction
Alternate Names: Growth/differentiation factor 8, GDF-8, Myostatin, MSTA, GDF8Description:
Myostatin (GDF8, MSTN) is a member of the transforming growth factor beta superfamily that is essential for proper regulation of skeletal muscle mass. Myostatin is a secreted protein that negatively regulates skeletal muscle mass, determining both muscle fiber number and size. The myostatin pathway is conserved and regulates muscle mass in a number of animal species ranging from fish to humans. Inhibition of myostatin using a variety of therapeutic approaches can increase muscle mass in a number of animal models of human disease, including muscular dystrophy. Recombinant Human Myostatin, also called GDF-8, produced in E. coli is a non-glycosylated polypeptide chain existing as a homodimer containing 2 x 109 amino acids with a MW of 24,814 Da.
Source: E. coli. Endotoxin level as measured by LAL is <0.01ng/ug or <0.1EU/ug.
Applications: E, WB
Application Notes:
Recombinant Human Myostatin is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The ED50 as determined by the inhibition of the proliferation of MPC-11 cells is < 20 ng/ml.
Accession No.: O14793
MW: 24814 Da
Sequence:
DFGLDCDEHS TESRCCRYPL TVDFEAFGWD WIIAPKRYKA NYCSGECEFV FLQKYPHTHL VHQANPRGSA GPCCTPTKMS PINMLYFNGK EQIIYGKIPA MVVDRCGCS
Purity:
Purity > 95% as determined by RP-HPLC and reducing and non-reducing SDS-PAGE. Protein Content determined by UV spectroscopy at 280 nm and analysis by RP-HPLC calibrated against a known standard. Quantitation on SDS-PAGE against a known standard.
Format:
Each vial contains 10 ug of lyophilized protein. Reconstitute with 0.1 ml sterile deionized water for a final concentration of 0.1 mg/ml.
Storage: Store at -20°C. Product is guaranteed one year from the date of shipment. Following reconstitution, store at -20°C. We recommend to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA) for long term storage.
